Today.......... another day to be Thankful

I love James River High School............ I love a couple of the teachers, the location, the coaches, the students I have met and the decor..... I haven't found one negative thing about that school......... at all........but it is with Adult Eyes I view .   I loved my high school(s) experiences, especially my "all girl" school, River Dale...... but as much as I did............. I think I would like this school better.   I have had the opportunity to sit in on quite a few events there, Athletic as well as Academic.......but today............. was one that made me feel a full range of emotions from start to finish....... the journey all the way there........ the time there .....and the journey home.   In the tradition of  "giving thanks"  I want to give thanks once again through the lens of my camera.

I arrived a bit early and checked into the office............. one of the women that I had previously photographed there passed by me, not making eye contact and talking on her walkie talkie.  There was talk of "the incident." all around ......buzzing....... by my ears.  The people and the noise.  The usual ambiance of happiness in the school was not around.   I got my visitors pass.   I was told the "signing" which I was there for was not happening as planned in the library.  I was escorted to a classroom.  They were going to do the signing in a class room versus the library.  We passed the library, it was dark and there were signs on the door and more people with walkie talkies.  It looked kind of dark in there, but I thought for sure that "it was just me."

The young lady of the SCA walked me to the room, down the hall and very well removed from the library.  We passed a few students in the hall...........that were crying ..............and being escorted one on one towards the library.  I asked my own escort what was going on.  It appears that all was not well this day, this happy day for the two guys that got scholarships to our VA TEAM SCHOOLS and had a celebratory signing ........ VA TECH AND UVA BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIPS........... a day of jubilation for them, their friends, their parents, coaches and others............ the celebration day for the school star athletes.......

The leadership / Ethics class was awesome!  They were watching a movie, a very relevant movie about the elderly and how we as a society really don't know how or what to do with the elderly........... or well........most of us.   It was current, it was relevant, it was interesting and there wasn't a sleeping student or a yawn in the room.  Discussion was held afterwards........ as they pondered and questioned....it was about the elderly in our society......... everyone in the room could relate to some piece of it ....... I could tell.  I don't think anyone in this classroom was privy yet to the news that awaited them outside in the halls.

The celebration team soon  entered and honored the two young gentlemen had a fabulous time.  The paperwork was signed, they wore their "colors" proudly.  Cameras flashed and poses were stricken, and I enjoyed the moment .............kind of............ it was a memory making event that everyone in the room would remember the rest of their lives........... for many reasons.......

James River High School lost a female freshman to suicide yesterday / last night/this a.m.? the details are sketchy but what wasn't blurry or unclear was .........  the crisis center had been established ........and the police were present and amongst the joy........ there was angst....... that waited in the rafters........ and I knew that the changes that happened today........... in their lives would stay with them forever.........

I love this school..................my heart breaks for them.............. Children shouldn't die :( not in my mind )
it just shouldn't happen....especially not due to sadness because thats what it usually boils down to, sadness for some reason....... .... this shouldn't happen to them, to their parents and to their classmates, coaches, and community.

Please say a prayer for them all.
